The Power of Creativity: Why Your Creative Spark Matters
As I sit in my coaching space, my eyes wander to my art wall. Bright colors, bold textures, and energies that feel alive surround me. Some pieces I created myself, others were lovingly gifted to me over the years. Together, they tell a story—a story of growth, joy, and the importance of creativity in my life.
This wall is more than decoration. It’s a reminder: creativity matters.
Creativity Is More Than Art
When we hear the word creativity, we often picture painting, music, or dance. But creativity isn’t limited to the arts—it’s the spark of life that flows into everything we do. You create when you:
Write a journal entry to process your thoughts
Cook a new recipe for your family
Rearrange your living room furniture to bring in new energy
Craft something with your hands
Dream up a new idea at work or in your home
Creativity is the act of bringing something into existence that wasn’t there before. It’s not about the finished product. It’s about the act itself—about tapping into your intuition and giving yourself permission to express.
The Spiritual Side of Creativity
I believe creativity is one of the ways God whispers to us. When we create, we connect with our deepest selves—the part of us that longs to grow, to discover, to be more alive.
That small act of writing, painting, or playing a melody is really an act of faith. It says, “I trust my inner voice. I trust that what I have to offer matters.”
And it does.
Why Creativity Strengthens Relationships
You might be surprised to hear this, but creativity doesn’t just affect you—it affects your relationships too. Gay and Katie Hendricks, relationship experts I deeply admire, teach that individual creativity is one of the pillars of a healthy relationship.
Why? Because when you give yourself space to create:
You feel more empowered and less like a victim.
You show up more hopeful, alive, and open.
You bring fresh energy and inspiration into your partnership.
Even just ten minutes a day of creative expression can shift your mood, give you more choice, and lessen fear or blame in your relationship. When you are fulfilled individually, you show up more fully in your connections.
Creativity as a Pathway to Growth
Every time we create, we expand. We grow into more than we were before—more fulfilled, more enlivened, more hopeful. It doesn’t matter if anyone else ever sees what you create. The act itself transforms you.
So I ask you today:
What will you create?
How might creativity support you on your journey to being yourself?
How could your creative spark bring new joy to your important relationships?
A Loving Reminder
Your creativity matters. Whether it’s scribbling in a notebook, singing in the shower, or stirring something new on the stove—it matters. It is sacred. It is powerful. And it is part of who you are.
So today, take a moment to let your soul play. Create something small. Create something big. Create something just for you.
You’ll be amazed at how much light, energy, and joy it brings—not only to your own heart but to everyone around you.
