The Magic of Biscuits and Connection

This morning felt like magic. My 12-year-old daughter, Anna, and I made biscuits together. It’s one of her favorite morning rituals—to grab a warm biscuit on her way to the bus stop. She’s getting really good at making them now. Fluffy and soft on the inside, just a little crispy on the outside.

We each had our role. I cut the butter into small cubes. Anna measured the flour and buttermilk. I poured it in, and she carefully folded and flattened the dough, layering it again and again before cutting out circles. We laughed, talked, and moved around the kitchen as though it were our own little dance.

When the biscuits came out of the oven, golden brown and steaming, we sat down to enjoy them together. She spread jam on hers. I savored mine plain, still warm from the oven. And in that moment, I realized something important:

It wasn’t about the biscuits.

It was about connection. About slowing down long enough to do something we both enjoy. About working side by side, sharing the joy of creating something together, and savoring not just each bite—but the moment itself.

My kids are growing up quickly. I know they won’t always be here in the same ways they are now. And that makes these simple, everyday moments even more sacred. Connection gives me hope. It reminds me that even in the midst of busy schedules and changing seasons, there are still opportunities to pause, to be present, and to see one another fully.

So today I wonder…

  • Who do you want to connect with?

  • What small thing could you do to create that connection?

  • How can you slow down enough to notice the sacred moments in your own life?

Because here’s the truth: we need each other. We need those reminders of joy, laughter, and love. And when we connect with others, we also connect more deeply with ourselves.

I am grateful for my connection with Anna today. I am grateful for the reminder that biscuits are never just biscuits. They are a doorway to presence, love, and hope.

May you find your own golden, hope-filled moments of connection today.

With gratitude,
